1 ϧⲉⲛⲛⲓⲉϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲧⲉⲙⲙⲁⲩ ⲁϥⲓ ⲛϫⲉⲓⲱⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲡⲓⲣⲉϥϯⲱⲙⲥ ⲉϥϩⲓⲱⲓϣ ϩⲓⲡϣⲁϥⲉ ⲛⲧⲉϯⲓⲟⲩⲇⲉⲁ
In those days, John the Baptizer came, preaching in the wilderness of Judea, saying,
2 ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉⲁⲣⲓⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲉⲓⲛ ⲁⲥϧⲱⲛⲧ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲛϫⲉϯⲙⲉⲧⲟⲩⲣⲟ ⲛⲧⲉⲛⲓⲫⲏⲟⲩⲓ .
'Repent, for the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand!'
3 ⲫⲁⲓ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲫⲏ ⲉⲧⲁϥϫⲟϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲟⲧϥ ⲛⲏⲥⲁⲓⲁⲥ ⲡⲓⲡⲣⲟⲫⲏⲧⲏⲥ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉⲧⲥⲙⲏ ⲙⲫⲏ ⲉⲧⲱϣ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲡϣⲁϥⲉ ϫⲉⲥⲉⲃⲧⲉ ⲫⲙⲱⲓⲧ ⲙⲡϭⲟⲓⲥ ⲥⲟⲩⲧⲱⲛ ⲛⲛⲉϥⲙⲁⲛⲙⲟϣⲓ .
For this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, 'The voice of one crying in the wilderness, make ready the way of the Lord. Make his paths straight.'
4 ⲛⲑⲟϥ ⲇⲉ ⲓⲱⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲛⲉⲧⲉϥϩⲉⲃⲥⲱ ⲟⲩⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛϩⲁⲛϥⲱⲓ ⲛϭⲁⲙⲟⲩⲗ ⲧⲉ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲛⲁϥⲙⲏⲣ ⲛⲟⲩⲙⲟϫϧ ⲛϣⲁⲣ ⲉϫⲉⲛⲧⲉϥϯⲡⲓ ⲧⲉϥϧⲣⲉ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲉⲟⲩϣϫⲉ ⲧⲉ ⲛⲉⲙⲟⲩⲉⲃⲓⲱ ⲛⲧⲉⲧⲕⲟⲓ .
Now John himself wore clothing made of camel's hair, with a leather belt around his waist. His food was locusts and wild honey.
5 ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲛⲁⲩⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲁⲣⲟϥ ⲡⲉ ⲛϫⲉⲛⲁ ⲓⲉⲣⲟⲥⲁⲗⲏⲙ ⲛⲉⲙϯⲓⲟⲩⲇⲉⲁ ⲧⲏⲣⲥ ⲛⲉⲙϯⲡⲉⲣⲓⲭⲱⲣⲟⲥ ⲧⲏⲣⲥ ⲛⲧⲉⲡⲓⲓⲟⲣⲇⲁⲛⲏⲥ .
Then people from Jerusalem, all of Judea, and all the region around the Jordan went out to him.
6 ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲛⲁⲩϭⲓⲱⲙⲥ ⲛⲧⲟⲧϥ ϧⲉⲛⲡⲓⲓⲟⲣⲇⲁⲛⲏ ⲥⲛⲓⲁⲣⲟ ⲉⲩⲟⲩⲱⲛϩ ⲛⲛⲟⲩⲛⲟⲃⲓ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ .
They were baptized by him in the Jordan, confessing their sins.
7 ⲉⲧⲁϥⲛⲁⲩ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲟⲩⲙⲏϣ ⲛⲧⲉⲛⲓⲫⲁⲣⲓⲥⲉⲟⲥ ⲛⲉⲙⲛⲓⲥⲁⲇⲇⲟⲩⲕⲉⲟⲥ ⲉⲩⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⲉϫⲉⲛⲡⲓⲱⲙⲥ ⲛⲧⲁϥ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲱⲟⲩ ϫⲉⲛⲓⲙⲓⲥⲓ ⲛⲧⲉⲛⲓⲁϫⲱ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲁϥⲧⲁⲙⲉ ⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ ⲉⲫⲱⲧ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲁⲧϩⲏ ⲙⲡⲓϫⲱⲛⲧ ⲉⲑⲛⲏⲟⲩ .
But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees coming for his baptism, he said to them, 'You offspring of vipers, who warned you to flee from the wrath to come?
8 ⲁⲣⲓⲟⲩⲓ ⲟⲩⲛ ⲛⲟⲩⲟⲩⲧⲁϩ ⲉϥⲙⲡϣⲁ ⲛϯⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲓⲁ .
Therefore bring forth fruit worthy of repentance!
9 ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲙⲡⲉⲣⲙⲉⲩⲓ ϧⲉⲛⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ ⲉϫⲟⲥ ϫⲉⲟⲩⲟⲛ ⲛⲧⲁⲛ ⲙⲡⲉⲛⲓⲱⲧ ⲁⲃⲣⲁⲁⲙ ϯϫⲱ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲛⲱⲧⲉⲛ ϫⲉⲟⲩⲟⲛ ϣϫⲟⲙ ⲙⲫⲛⲟⲩϯ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛⲛⲁⲓⲱⲛⲓ ⲉⲧⲟⲩⲛⲉⲥ ϣⲏⲣⲓ ⲛⲁⲃⲣⲁⲁⲙ .
Don't think to yourselves, 'We have Abraham for our father,' for I tell you that God is able to raise up children to Abraham from these stones.
10 ϩⲏⲇⲏ ⲇⲉ ⲡⲓⲕⲉⲗⲉⲃⲓⲛ ϥⲭⲏ ϧⲁⲧⲛⲟⲩⲛⲓ ⲛⲛⲓϣϣⲏⲛ ϣϣⲏⲛ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉⲧⲉϥⲛⲁⲉⲛ ⲟⲩⲧⲁϩ ⲉⲛⲁⲛⲉϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲁⲛ ⲥⲉⲛⲁⲕⲟⲣϫϥ ⲛⲥⲉϩⲓⲧϥ ⲉⲡⲓⲭⲣⲱⲙ .
'Even now the axe lies at the root of the trees. Therefore, every tree that doesn't bring forth good fruit is cut down, and cast into the fire.
11 ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲙⲉⲛ ⲅⲁⲣ ϯⲱⲙⲥ ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲉⲛ ϧⲉⲛⲟⲩⲙⲱⲟⲩ ⲉⲩⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲓⲁ ⲫⲏ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲑⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⲙⲉⲛⲉⲛⲥⲱⲓ ϥϫⲟⲣ ⲉϩⲟⲧⲉⲣⲟⲓ ⲫⲏ ⲉⲧⲉⲛϯⲙⲡϣⲁ ⲁⲛ ⲉϥⲁⲓ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲑⲱⲟⲩⲓ ⲛⲑⲟϥ ⲉϥⲉⲉⲙⲥ ⲑⲏⲛⲟⲩ ϧⲉⲛⲟⲩⲡⲛⲉⲩⲙⲁⲉϥⲟⲩⲁⲃ ⲛⲉⲙⲟⲩⲭⲣⲱⲙ .
I indeed baptize
12 ⲫⲏ ⲇⲉ ⲡⲉϥϧⲁⲓ ϧⲉⲛⲧⲉϥϫⲓϫ ϥⲛⲁⲧⲟⲩⲃⲟ ⲙⲡⲉϥϭⲛⲱⲟⲩ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ϥⲛⲁⲑⲱⲟⲩϯ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲥⲟⲩⲟ ⲉϯⲁⲡⲟⲑⲏⲕⲏ ⲡⲓⲧⲟϩ ⲇⲉ ϥⲛⲁⲣⲟⲕϩϥ ϧⲉⲛⲟⲩⲭⲣⲱⲙ ⲛⲁⲧϭⲉⲛⲟ .
His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will thoroughly cleanse his threshing floor. He will gather his wheat into the barn, but the chaff he will burn up with unquenchable fire.'
13 ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲁϥⲓ ⲛϫⲉⲓⲏⲥⲟⲩⲥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛϯⲅⲁⲗⲓⲗⲉⲁ ⲉϫⲉⲛⲡⲓⲓⲟⲣⲇⲁⲛⲏⲥ ϩⲁⲓⲱⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲉⲑⲣⲉϥϭⲓⲱⲙⲥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲟⲧϥ .
Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to John, to be baptized by him.
14 ⲓⲱⲁⲛⲛⲏⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲁϥⲧⲁϩⲛⲟ ⲙⲙⲟϥ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲉⲧⲉⲣⲭⲣⲓⲁ ⲉϭⲓⲱⲙⲥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲟⲧⲕ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲛⲑⲟⲕ ⲉⲑⲛⲏⲟⲩ ϩⲁⲣⲟⲓ .
But John would have hindered him, saying, 'I need to be baptized by you, and you come to me?'
15 ⲁϥⲉⲣⲟⲩⲱ ⲇⲉ ⲛϫⲉⲓⲏⲥⲟⲩⲥ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉⲭⲁⲥ ϯⲛⲟⲩ ⲡⲁⲓⲣⲏϯ ⲡⲉⲧⲥⲉⲙⲡϣⲁ ⲛⲁⲛ ⲉϫⲉⲕ ⲙⲉⲑⲙⲏⲓ ⲛⲓⲃⲉⲛ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲧⲟⲧⲉ ⲁϥⲭⲁϥ .
But Jesus, answering, said to him, 'Allow it now, for this is the fitting way for us to fulfill all righteousness.' Then he allowed him.
16 ⲉⲧⲁϥⲱⲙⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲛϫⲉⲓⲏⲥⲟⲩⲥ ⲥⲁⲧⲟⲧϥ ⲁϥⲓ ⲉⲡϣⲱⲓ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛⲡⲓⲙⲱⲟⲩ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ϩⲏⲡⲡⲉ ⲁⲩⲟⲩⲱⲛ ⲛⲁϥ ⲛϫⲉⲛⲓⲫⲏⲟⲩⲓ ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲁϥⲛⲁⲩ ⲉⲟⲩⲡⲛⲉⲩⲙⲁⲛⲧⲉⲫⲛⲟⲩϯ ⲉϥⲛⲏⲟⲩ ⲉⲡⲉⲥⲏⲧ ⲙⲫⲣⲏϯ ⲛⲟⲩϭⲣⲟⲙⲡⲓ ⲉϥⲛⲏⲟⲩ ϩⲁⲣⲟϥ .
Jesus, when he was baptized, went up directly from the water: and behold, the heavens were opened to him. He saw the Spirit of God descending as a dove, and coming on him.
17 ⲟⲩⲟϩ ⲓⲥ ⲟⲩⲥⲙⲏ ⲁⲥϣⲱⲡⲓ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϧⲉⲛⲛⲓⲫⲏⲟⲩⲓ ⲉⲥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ϫⲉⲫⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲁϣⲏⲣⲓ ⲡⲁⲙⲉⲛⲣⲓⲧ ⲉⲧⲁⲓϯⲙⲁϯ ⲛϧⲏⲧϥ .
Behold, a voice out of the heavens said, 'This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.'
