1 ⲕⲱⲧⲉ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲓ ϩⲛϩⲓⲣ ⲛⲓⲙ ⲛⲧⲉⲡϯⲙⲉ
…going around with me in every street of the village,
2 ⲛⲉⲩϩⲓⲟⲩⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲓ ⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ
they were striking me, saying,
3 ϫⲉⲡⲉⲓⲙⲟⲛⲁⲭⲟⲥ ⲁϥϫⲓ ⲙⲡⲣⲟⲟⲩⲛⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲛϣⲉⲉⲣⲉ
“This monk took the virginity of our daughter.
4 ϩⲓⲟⲩⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ .
Strike him!”
5 ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲩϩⲓⲟⲩⲉ ⲉⲣⲟⲓ .
And they struck me.
6 ⲡⲁⲣⲁⲕⲉⲕⲟⲩⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲓⲛⲁⲙⲟⲩ ⲡⲉ .
And I was almost going to die.
7 ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉϫⲉⲟⲩⲁ ⲉϥⲟ ⲛⲛⲁⲏⲧ
And someone, having compassion, said,
8 ϫⲉϣⲁⲧⲛⲁⲩ ⲧⲉⲧⲛϩⲓⲟⲩⲉ ⲉⲡⲉⲓⲙⲟⲛⲁⲭⲟⲥ ⲛϣⲙⲙⲟ .
“Until when are you striking this monk, a stranger?”
9 ⲡⲉⲧⲇⲓⲁⲕⲟⲛⲉⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲛⲉϥⲟⲩⲏϩ ⲛⲥⲱⲓ ⲡⲉ ϩⲓⲡⲁϩⲟⲩ ⲉϥϣⲓⲡⲉ
The one who served me was following after me, ashamed.
10 ⲛⲉⲁⲩⲥⲟϣϥ ⲅⲁⲣ ⲡⲉ
For they were abusing him
11 ⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ,
saying,
12 ϫⲉⲉⲛⲉⲡⲁⲓ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲁⲛⲁⲭⲱⲣⲏⲧⲏⲥ ⲉⲧⲉⲕⲣⲙⲛⲧⲣⲉ ϩⲁⲣⲟϥ .
“Is this the anchorite to whom you bear witness?
13 ⲁⲛⲁⲩ ϫⲉⲟⲩ ⲡⲉⲧⲉⲁϥⲁⲁϥ .
Look at what he did.”
14 ⲛⲉⲩϫⲱ ϭⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ⲛϭⲓⲛⲉⲥⲉⲓⲟⲧⲉ
Then her parents said,
15 ϫⲉⲛⲧⲛⲛⲁⲕⲁⲁϥ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ⲁⲛ
“We will not release him
16 ϣⲁⲛⲧϥϯϣⲡⲧⲱⲣⲉ ⲉⲣⲟϥ
until he gives a guarantee for himself
17 ..ⲥⲁⲛϣ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ .
[that he will] support her.”
18 ⲁⲓϫⲟⲟⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲡⲉⲧⲇⲓⲁⲕⲟⲛⲉⲓ ⲛⲁⲓ
So I spoke to the one who served me
19 ⲁϥϣⲉⲡⲧⲱⲣⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲓ
and he guaranteed me.
20 ⲁⲓⲃⲱⲕ ⲉⲧⲁⲣⲓ .
I went to my cell.
21 ⲃⲓⲣ ⲛ … ⲧⲁⲓ ………. ⲛ …………. ………….. ………….. …….. ⲉⲃⲟⲗ
…
22 .. …….. … … ……. …. . ⲡⲁ ……. ……. …… … ϭⲛⲟⲩⲥ …… … ⲧⲉⲭⲣⲉⲓⲁ
“… necessity,
23 ⲛⲅⲣⲟⲩⲕⲟⲩⲓ ⲛϩⲱⲃ ⲛϩⲟⲩⲟ ,
and you must do a little more work
24 ⲧⲁⲣⲉⲕⲥⲁⲛⲟⲩϣⲥ
so that you can support her.”
25 ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲓⲣϩⲱⲃ ⲛϭⲱⲣⲁϩ ⲙⲛⲙⲉⲉⲣⲉ ⲉⲓϫⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲁⲥ .
And I worked night and day, sending to her.
26 ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲉⲥⲉⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲉⲥⲛⲁⲙⲓⲥⲉ ⲛϭⲓⲧⲉⲃⲓⲏⲛ
But when the wretched woman came to give birth,
27 ⲁⲥϭⲱ ⲉⲥϩⲟⲥⲉ .
she continued laboring.
28 ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲡⲉⲥⲙⲓⲥⲉ .
And she did not give birth.
29 ⲛⲉⲩϫⲱ ⲇⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ
They said to her,
30 ϫⲉⲟⲩ ⲡⲉ ⲡⲁⲓ .
“What is this?”
31 ⲛⲧⲟⲥ ⲇⲉ ⲡⲉϫⲁⲥ
And she said,
32 ϫⲉⲁⲛⲟⲕ ϯⲥⲟⲟⲩⲛ
“I know,
33 ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϫⲉⲁⲓϩⲓⲗⲁ ⲉⲡⲁⲛⲁⲭⲱⲣⲏⲧⲏⲥ ,
because I slandered the anchorite,
34 ⲁⲩⲱ ⲁⲓϫⲓϭⲟⲗ ⲉⲣⲟϥ .
and I lied about him.
35 ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲡⲉϥⲣⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲛⲁⲓ .
And he did not do anything to me.
36 ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲙⲉϣⲉⲛⲓⲙ ⲡⲉ ⲛϣⲏⲣⲉϣⲏⲙ .
But it was some other youth.”
37 ⲁϥⲉⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲛϭⲓⲡⲉⲧⲇⲓⲁⲕⲟⲛⲉⲓ ⲛⲁⲓ ⲉϥϫⲱ ⲙⲙⲟⲥ ,
My servant came to me, saying,
38 ϫⲉⲙⲡⲉⲧⲉⲥϩⲓⲙⲉ ϭⲙϭⲟⲙ ⲉⲙⲓⲥⲉ ,
“The woman was not able to give birth,
39 ϣⲁⲛⲧⲉⲥϩⲟⲙⲟⲗⲟⲅⲉⲓ
until she confessed,
40 ϫⲉⲙⲛⲡⲉⲧⲉⲡⲁⲛⲁⲭⲱⲣⲏⲧⲏⲥ ϩⲱⲃ ⲛⲙⲙⲁⲓ ,
“The anchorite had nothing to do with me
41 ⲁⲗⲗⲁ ⲛⲧⲁⲓϫⲓϭⲟⲗ ⲉⲣⲟϥ .
but I lied about him.”
42 ⲁⲩⲱ ⲉⲓⲥϩⲏⲏⲧⲉ ⲡϯⲙⲉ ⲧⲏⲣϥ ⲟⲩⲱϣ ⲉⲉⲓ ⲉⲡⲉⲓⲙⲁ ⲉⲧⲣⲉⲩⲙⲉⲧⲁⲛⲟⲉⲓ .
And look, the whole village wants to come here in order to repent.”
43 ⲁⲛⲟⲕ ⲇⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲓⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲉⲛⲁⲓ
When I heard these things,
44 ϫⲉⲕⲁⲥ ⲛⲛⲉⲩⲑⲗⲓⲃⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲓ ⲛϭⲓⲛⲣⲱⲙⲉ
so that the people would not bother me,
45 ⲁ…..ⲛ
…
46 ⲁⲓⲉⲓ ⲉⲡⲉⲓⲙⲁ ⲉϣⲓⲏⲧ .
I came to this place, to Scetis.
47 ⲧⲁⲓ ⲇⲉ ⲧⲉ ⲧⲗⲟⲓϭⲉ ⲛⲧⲁⲓⲉⲓ ⲉⲡⲉⲓⲙⲁ ⲉⲧⲃⲏⲏⲧⲥ .
This is the reason why I came here.
