he saw his way of life

4 ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛⲁϥ ϫⲉⲉⲧⲉⲧⲛⲛⲁⲩ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲗⲁⲁⲩ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ ϩⲓⲧⲛⲡⲉⲧⲛⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ .

and he said to him: “Is it nothing that you see from your God?”

5 ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ϫⲉⲙⲙⲟⲛ . ⲻ

He said: “No”.

6 ⲡⲉϫⲁϥ ⲛϭⲓⲡϩⲓⲉⲣⲉⲩⲥ ϫⲉⲁⲛⲟⲛ ϩⲉⲛⲕⲟⲩⲓ ⲛⲗⲓⲧⲟⲩⲣⲅⲓⲁ ⲛⲉⲧⲛⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲙⲙⲟⲟⲩ ·

He said, that is the priest: “Us, it is small liturgies that we do

7 ⲁⲩⲱ ⲙⲙⲩⲥⲧⲏⲣⲓⲟⲛ ϭⲟⲗⲡ ⲛⲁⲛ ⲉⲃⲟⲗ . ⲻ

and the mysteries are revealed to us

8 ⲁⲩⲱ ⲛⲧⲱⲧⲛ ⲧⲉⲧⲛⲉⲓⲣⲉ ⲛⲛⲉⲓϩⲓⲥⲉ ⲛⲧⲉⲓϭⲟⲧ · ⲻ ⲛⲉⲓⲟⲩϣⲏ ⲛⲣⲟⲉⲓⲥ · ⲙⲛⲛⲉⲓⲁⲥⲕⲏⲥⲓⲥ · ⲙⲛⲡⲉⲓⲥϭⲣⲁϩⲧ ·

and you, you do these toils of this sort, these nights of vigilance and these asceticisms and this silence,

and you say: ‘we don't have any thought that's wicked in our heart',

10 ⲁⲩⲱ ⲟⲛ ⲡⲉⲧⲡⲱⲣϫ ⲙⲙⲱⲧⲛ ⲉⲡⲉⲧⲛⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ ·

and still (there is?) that which separates you from your God,

11 ⲛϥϭⲱⲗⲡ ⲁⲛ ⲉⲣⲱⲧⲛ ⲛⲛⲉϥⲙⲩⲥⲧⲏⲣⲓⲟⲛ .

as he doesn't reveal his mysteries to you.”

12 ⲛⲧⲉⲣⲟⲩⲥⲱⲧⲙ ⲇⲉ ⲛϭⲓⲛⲉⲛⲉⲓⲟⲧⲉ ⲁⲩⲣϣⲡⲏⲣⲉ ⲁⲩⲱ ⲡⲉϫⲁⲩ ϫⲉⲙⲙⲉⲉⲩⲉ ⲉⲧϩⲟⲟⲩ ⲛⲁⲙⲉ ⲛⲉϣⲁⲩⲡⲟⲣϫⲛ ⲉⲡⲛⲟⲩⲧⲉ .

And after they heard, that is the elders, they were amazed and they said: “The thoughts that are wicked truly have always separated us from God.”
